Performances

Denise Casey is a performance artist, storyteller, and facilitator whose work explores the power of story, contemplative practice, and performance as tools for transformation and change—both personal and collective. Her career weaves together the practices that help us step into the stories we are often afraid to tell, hear, or draw near to.

She has taught experience-based learning in schools, universities, businesses, and treatment centers, leading workshops and seminars in writing, voicework, mindfulness, storytelling, and the creative process.

In Playing the Game, Denise Casey explores the games we play to belong- from taking cover in a monastery to skip out of rehab, to going halfway across the world to hear the Himalayas, or time traveling through a seventh grade science class.  In this 60-minute, one-woman play, Denise follows the games she's played through the seen and unseen world into a larger collective moment, the summer of 2020. Part memoir, part meditation, part make believe, Playing the Game is unshaking in its exploration of possibility and courage.

All In, 2021

For my final presentation in Voice Movement Therapy we were asked to identify 10 different subpersonalities, learn their songs, their voices, their movements and the thread that connects them. I became curious about this particular "befriending of parts" when Rev. angel Kyodo williams offered in retreat an invitation to "go and find the parts of yourself that you don't want to see." I began singing this line over and over, like a homing device, until it led me to these very parts. All In is a look at what happens when we can lean in, get curious and listen.
